Ava period alabaster sculpture from Burma, circa 18th century. 44cm / 17.5 inches tall

A lovely example; the serene, elegant carving sits in a beautifully turned and gilded socle base. In excellent condition, with no losses or damage to the main body of the budhha, some slight wear to the lotus he is standing on. The giltwood base is solid and undamaged, with age related losses and wear to the gilt. The gilt is stable, with no flaking and is exceptionally attractive. The base of the statue has been carved into a peg which slots satisfyingly into the socle. The two pieces are well balanced and sturdy when put together, with a slight backwards lean to the carving when in-situ.
