Circa 1880, exceptional Vaseline Glass/Uranium Glass lantern with highly unusual honeycomb surface.

Lantern measures 23cm x 29cm inclusive of frame, the glass is unusually large, being 23cm x 15cm. Rare to find a lantern of this style, size and age. The later Arts & Crafts style being both smaller and more common.

The glass is extraordinary, with subtle, shifting hues ranging from purple to turquoise when against a darker background to pale yellow and green in a lighter environment. It has been hand blown and has small imperfections and air bubbles accordingly. A couple of very minor, hard to spot surface scratches otherwise perfect condition.

The frame is bronze and has the original unrestored gilding. Showing signs of tarnish/wear commensurate with age. Comes with the original bronze chains which are now  lacking most of the original gilt.

We have a choice of two perfectly matched period gilt bronze ceiling roses, see last image, just let us know which you would prefer.

Please note: This has been photographed here against a dark blue room, the colours will change dependant on the environment the lantern is placed in. Against a white wall it appears much more subdued.
