Huge silk tapestry, 235cm x 207cm, in superb condition. Dating to the early 20th century
Machine embroidered in beautiful, bright, jewel like tones. The design/drawing is in gold silk on an ivory ground. The design elements (figures, birds etc) are filled with vertical bands of colour that reach from top to bottom. There is a central band of an unusual rusty pink, then to either side the colours are: Magenta, Dark Turquoise, Royal Blue, Chinese Orange, Light Green/Pistachio, Maroon, Turquoise and purple at the outer edges.
The piece is fringed to three sides and plain on the top edge. This suggests, along with the size and the heavy, durable quality of the textile, that it was created as a bedspread. It can certainly be used as one, it comfortably reaches the floor either side of a super king bed. Looks amazing as a wall hanging tapestry or a window/door curtain. A very versatile and attractive piece.
Condition:
Superb, clean and bright throughout. Some minor pulls and loose threads, minimal and has little impact overall.
