An extraordinary portrait mirror, with original paintwork, gilt trim and plate.
From the 19th century but in a highly original art deco style. The frame is wide and deep and heavy, it feels luxurious without having resorted to fancy carving or gesso work. The gilding is restrained, classy and worn now to perfection. A very sophisticated design piece that appears decades ahead of it's time.
Large and impressive, at 170cm x 88cm, we can't think of anywhere this wouldn't look amazing. Hanging above a low console table, at the top of a stair well or just leant up against a bedroom wall: this is going to transform wherever it ends up.
Condition: The mirror plate is in original, unrestored condition and has foxing and some loss of silvering. This came to us with only one of the original backing boards, (the top board) the missing boards have been sympathetically replaced with antique timbers. There is a silver "patch" on one of the replacement boards to cover the largest area of missing silvering on the plate (a third of the way up the left side, please see images). Nibbles to the wood on the very inner part of the frame along the bottom.
Generally in excellent condition, please refer to images and feel free to ask for more.
UK shipping is £50, excluding NI and hard to reach parts of the mainland. Please see Shipping info for details and how to order.
