Art Deco uplighter from Maison Genet et Michon in acid washed bronze. 35cm x 30cm (137 x 12 inches).

Created circa 1930, the beautifully patinated gold finish has been achieved by applying acid over a resist. A very sophisticated and unusual technique that can be seen on several pieces from the same house. Overall in superb original condition, with only a couple of small areas of touch up to the white painted interior, see images. Newly rewired to modern UK standards with a braided cotton cable and new inline switch.

Philippe Genêt and Lucien Michon set up a design firm in 1911, making light fixtures from 1919. At the time this piece was produced the firm had a prestigious reputation and were working for The Elysee Palace, embassies, and ministries. They continued their activities after the war, and the firm closed in the 1960's.
