Majestic and glamorous! An impressive pair of lamps, coming in at 54cm tall (exc fittings) with a wingspan of 42cm (21.2 x 16.5 inches). European, possibly Italian, dating to second quarter 20th century, circa 1940's.
Beautifully hand carved in the Empire style, they have been water gilded then deliberately distressed to let the red bole underneath come through. Though a matching pair, made to the same design, each bird is unique with subtle differences to the wing shapes, crest, positioning of the head etc. They are deliberately aged and in absolutely perfect, as made, condition. Professionally rewired to modern standards with new switched bulb holders.
