A pair of heavy, cast verdigris bronze sculptural candlesticks, stamped to base: R Welch UK. 30.5cm high x 14cm wide at the base 3.5kg. Circa 1990’s.
The graceful, winding, sinuous form together with the patina, (applied in thoughtful washes of green, blue and foamy white) of these Sea Drift candlesticks really does speak of the ocean. The bronze is heavy, pitted and incredibly tactile. These are beautiful sculptures in their own right.
This exceptional quality matched pair of candlesticks from Robert Welch’s Sea Drift line take their curvaceous, organic inspiration from beach-combed wood and were produced only in limited numbers in the 1990’s. The line was generally cast in iron with a very few, very special pieces like these produced in beautiful verdigris bronze. A rare and highly sought after pair.
