A heavy, cast verdigris bronze sculptural candelabra, stamped to base: R Welch UK. 22.5cm high x 28cm wide, 4.5kg. Circa 1990’s.
The graceful, flowing, waving form together with the patina, (applied in thoughtful washes of green, blue and foamy white) of this Sea Drift candelabra really does speak of the ocean. The bronze is heavy, pitted and incredibly tactile. This is a beautiful sculpture in its own right.
This exceptional quality candelabra from Robert Welch’s Sea Drift line takes its curvaceous, organic inspiration from beach-combed wood and was produced only in limited numbers in the 1990’s. The line was generally cast in iron with a very few, very special pieces like this one produced in beautiful verdigris bronze. A rare and highly sought after example.
