An early Edwardian piano stool in original unrestored condition. Black painted steel legs with green leather upholstered seat and a decorative brass rail. 65cm high to the back rail, the seat is 32cm wide x 21cm deep. Circa 1900.
Stylistically very similar to the brass legged piano stools of C H Hare, this has a more delicate design, with a narrower base and thin steel legs which curve out at the bottom in an elegant sweep. The fine legs are contrasted with the muscularity of the seat, with its hefty brass rail and finials and the oversized brass studding to the leather upholstery.
In completely original, unrestored condition the piece offers a wealth of beautiful patina throughout. The legs have their original black paint which is pitted now and textured but without losses or flaking. The seat has beautiful wear, colour variation and texture. The brass rail has been lightly cleaned but retains a warmth and charm, with just enough light marks and wear to show its age nicely.
Condition: Excellent, original condition. The base is strong and stable and the chair is in fully usable condition. The leather has some cracks and scratches, worn thin on the bottom left corner. There is a small circular depression on the left side of the seat surface. There are two screws missing at the back of the chair, this doesn’t affect the stability or security of the seat. The finial on the left has a slight wobble but is secure. Please see all images, they form an integral part of the description. Happy to supply any extra images/video on request.
